A driver competing in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series has received a suspension after allegedly causing an intentional crash during a race.
Following a review by race organisers, Blake McCandless’s actions were deemed a violation of the series’ sportsmanship and competition regulations.
As a result of the investigation, McCandless has received a one-race suspension and a one-week suspension from all online iRacing sessions. According to iRacing, the penalty issued ‘reflects the serious of intentional disruptions to race proceedings.’
Creating an intentional caution in eNASCAR races is also a breach of rule 8.1.1.8, which states: “Drivers intentionally stopping on or off the racing surface to intentionally bring out a caution period for their benefit, or the benefit of another driver, is forbidden and subject to adverse administrative and/or punitive actions.”
In response to the suspension, McCandless, driver of the #8 JR Motorsports (JRM) Chevrolet in the eNASCAR series, has appealed the suspension. A decision regarding the appeal is expected to arrive in the week commencing on June 9th, 2025.
“I’m simply stunned at this ruling and I want to be perfectly clear. I did not, nor would I ever, intentionally spin to bring out a caution. I have far too much respect for the folks I represent and the people I race with to do so,” said McCandless in an X post.
“I’m greatful to JRM for their continued support and the work they’re doing in attempting to get this ruling overturned. I apologise to them that they had to waste time dealing with this nonsense.”
What’s Next for the eNASCAR Series?
The tenth round of the 2025 eNASCAR season heads to Iowa Speedway on June 17th. After nine rounds, William Byron Esports driver Tucker Minter leads the driver standings with 289 points and three victories.
eNASCAR is one of the longest-running sim racing competitions in the world. The 2025 edition sees 43 drivers competing across an 18-round calendar for a chance to win a share of a $240,000 (~£177,310) prize pool.
