The opening matchups for the VALORANT Masters Toronto playoffs have been decided, with the first seed from each region selecting its opponent.

Teams had to choose from the four squads that qualified for the playoffs through the swiss stage, including Sentinels, Wolves Esports, Gen.G, and Paper Rex.

The first pick went to VCT China Stage 1 winners, Xi Lai Gaming, through a draw. Despite this being the organisation’s first international VCT event, it chose one of the toughest and most surprising opponents, Sentinels.

“It’s for the audience, they really want to see XLG play against Sentinels. That’s gonna be a banger,” said XLG’s coach Aleksandr ‘hvoya’ Eremin after the pick.

RRQ opted to face Wolves Esports, as the team wanted to avoid a regional matchup, with all remaining opponents being from the Pacific region.

G2 Esports had to go for either Gen.G or Paper Rex — and considering the dominating performances Gen.G has delivered so far, the squad picked Paper Rex instead.

With Fnatic being the last team remaining, the team is set to face Gen.G, just like at Masters Shanghai 2024.

Interestingly, both G2 and Fnatic will be going up against the same opponents in the first round of VALORANT Masters Toronto playoffs as they did last year in Shanghai.

“We were talking about it and I think it’s written in the stars. Gen.G vs Fnatic in the first round of playoffs, but all I’m gonna say is, it’s a different Fnatic this time,” said Milan ‘Milan’ de Meij.

Here’s a final look at the matchups, along with their schedules:
