Tekken 8 champion Arslan Ash recently admitted that he doesn’t listen to music, sending shockwaves through the FGC.

Arslan Ash is currently at Esports World Cup, a seven-week esports event in Saudi Arabia with a high-stakes Tekken 8 tournament. The opening ceremony at EWC featured a performance by popular rapper Post Malone, who has had songs hit the top of the US Billboard charts.

An interviewer asked Arslan if he was excited to meet Post Malone, but he answered he didn’t even know the artist.

Arslan Ash Reveals He Doesn’t Listen to Music

Arslan admitted on X that he wasn’t aware who Post Malone is. He wrote: “I think I need to stop being so honest and just say ‘so excited!’ even if I’ve never heard of them.”

While the FGC responded that they enjoyed his realness during interviews, people started to wonder how Arslan Ash had never heard of Post Malone at all. The rapper-turned-country artist has won numerous awards and become a mainstay in pop culture.

When one fan commented that Arslan must have heard some of his songs — even without knowing it — the fighting game pro replied: “I don’t listen to music.”

Some wondered if Arslan Ash saw music as a distraction from competing but others were telling Arslan that he was missing out on various artists. One fan said that Arslan was likely not listening to music because it was considered ‘haram’, which is not completely accurate.

As the theories continued to roll in, Arslan Ash decided to explain why he doesn’t listen to music. He noted that it was not a religious choice, although that has played a part in it.

“I’ve just never enjoyed it much. I’ve always turned down concerts, they’re actually one of the last places I’d ever want to go,” Arslan Ash admitted. “It’s just how I am. Nothing deep, just personal preference.”

Of course, Arslan Ash likely listens to Tekken 8’s music when he plays the game. Some fans were still shocked by Arslan’s disinterest in music while others respected his feelings about it.

The Tekken 8 tournament at the Esports World Cup will take place August 14th – 16th.
