MSI 2025 is in full swing, and Movistar KOI’s Alex ‘Myrwn‘ Pastor Villarejo is preparing to show exactly why he’s become one of Europe’s most talked‑about top laners.
Known for his unpredictable picks and fearless style, the Spanish player is stepping into his second international tournament with the clear goal to prove that he can compete with the best in the world.
As LEC’s first seed, MKOI skipped the Play‑Ins and now faces its first challenge on the main bracket, a Bilibili Gaming team that has battled through the event and carries strong momentum. Despite MKOI’s top seeding, many at home see the team as underdogs in Vancouver. But for Myrwn, the doubts only add fuel to his performance.
Myrwn remains unfazed by the pressure of facing the world’s best. If anything, much like other young players at MSI, he welcomes the challenge.
“I’m not scared of anyone, but the one I would say I respect the most is Kiin,” said Myrwn when speaking to Esports Insider.
Regarding Gen.G’s top laner, he added: “He’s been the player I’ve looked up to since I started competing. I’m excited to face him in an official match.”
Yet, Kiin is not the player Myrwn wants to face the most at this MSI, that is Anyone’s Legends top laner Flandre. “I think he’s really good. Last year, I watched a lot of his Rumble games because he’s one of the few players who uses him so often, and I learned a lot from that,” said Myrwn.
Myrwn’s Unpredictability
Whilst the organisation was crowned the 2025 LEC Spring Split champions, MKOI enters the competition with low expectations from the community.
However, Myrwn has already shown signs of being one of the toughest matchups for some of the world’s best top laners.
In an interview with NAmen, CFO top laner Shen ‘Driver’ Tsung-Hua said he would rather not face Myrwn at MSI because of how unpredictable he is in the top lane. While the Spanish top laner feels “happy” to receive this recognition, he also understands where it’s coming from.
“I think my champion pool sometimes can be kind of disgusting, so I understand that some people prefer not to face it,” said Myrwn. “If I was facing someone that plays such disgusting champions as me, I would probably say the same thing.”
How to Hide Secret Picks
Mixing comfort picks with the unexpected has become one of Myrwn’s trademarks.
He knows exactly which champions frustrate opponents the most and doesn’t hesitate to use them if it gives his team an advantage. That might be a “disgusting” Varus, Neeko or Zeri top lane.
In a past interview with Dot Esports, Myrwn called Fearless Draft “the future of competitive League” and his thoughts have not changed after six months of playing with the new format. He sees more room for players to innovate and break out of stale patterns, which is exactly the environment he thrives in.
“There’s a lot of champions that even with Fearless Draft, you don’t see that often. Because of how bans work, there are not many changes, so you see almost the same champions during matches,” he explained.
For someone with such a varied champion pool, pulling off surprise picks takes practice. However, for Myrwn, it’s important to go unnoticed at the same time.
To keep his strategies hidden, Myrwn often skips Solo Q altogether, testing risky ideas only in scrims — or sometimes not even there. Last year, he surprised everyone by pulling out Lulu top against G2 during the LEC Season Finals. That game did not end well for MKOI. Still, Myrwn’s Lulu practice mostly went unnoticed.
“If someone followed me through the ERLs they would know I played Lulu before. But I never played her in soloq,” said the top laner. “The morning of the BO5 against G2, I said ‘maybe Lulu works’ and it worked. Not the best because the game was a stomp, so I should say my pick worked, but not really.”
Myrwn’s journey from rising talent to a top contender is one to watch closely at MSI 2025, especially since he’ll need to deliver against BLG’s Bin, one of the tournament’s best top laners and a formidable opponent, during MKOI’s opening match.
