Treyarch has revealed the first details surrounding Call of Duty Black Ops 7 multiplayer as part of the first-person shooter title’s worldwide reveal at Gamescom 2025.

The seventh entry into the Black Ops series features several changes to movement mechanics along with a new set of maps and weaponry. Here’s a deep dive into the details and how it could affect the franchise’s esports scene going forward.

Black Ops 7 Movement Explained

Described as an evolution of the Omnimovement system introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Black Ops 7’s movement gives players the ability to perform wall jumps to gain the upper hand over the opposition in multiplayer matches.

As a result, the additional traversal capabilities will give players additional ways to navigate the maps.

For Call of Duty’s esports scene, wall jumping has the potential to create a skill gap among the world’s best players, who constantly look for any techniques to outwit their opponents.

In addition to wall jumping, Treyarch has removed Tactical Sprint, a mechanic that enabled a temporary speed boost faster than standard sprinting, as a default option. Call of Duty has often featured chaotic gameplay, and with a slower pace of play, further emphasis on strategy could impact the esports scene.

Black Ops 7 Multiplayer Maps

Black Ops 7 will launch with 16 multiplayer maps set in a variety of locations from across the world. 13 of the 16 battlegrounds are brand-new designs, while three are returning after appearing in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Raid, Express, and Hijacked have featured in previous esports seasons, and thanks to their competitive pedigree, there’s a high chance the maps will feature within the Call of Duty League‘s map pool.

Black Ops 7 Weapons

A total of 30 weapons will be available when Black Ops 7 launches on November 14th.

While none of the weapons have been officially revealed, eagle-eyed fans have spotted several weapons that have heavily featured in previous Call of Duty esports seasons.

Within screenshots released by Treyarch, the M8A1 and Maddox assault rifles from Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 4 have appeared, while others feature the PDW submachine gun and the DSR-50 sniper rifle.

In recent esports seasons, sniper rifles have formed part of the gentlemen’s agreement, a set of unofficial restrictions created by CDL players to prevent items that are overpowered from negatively impacting competitive play.

It remains to be seen if Black Ops 7 esports will feature sniper rifles as part of the competitive meta.

What’s Next For Black Ops 7?

Following the worldwide reveal at Gamescom, fans will find out more about what Black Ops 7 multiplayer has in store at Call of Duty: Next, taking place on September 30th, 2025.

The annual event will shed more light on multiplayer and the title’s other game modes, including Ranked Play, which is set to return.
