OpTic Gaming Halo player Matt ‘FormaL‘ Piper has spoken on the prospect of Halo players making a switch to compete in Call of Duty.
FormaL, a Call of Duty world champion, says Halo players should consider moving across to Activision’s first-person shooter title while the Halo esports scene waits for a new title.
During a recent appearance on the North American esports organisation’s The Drop podcast, FormaL discusses the prospect of Halo players looking to compete in Call of Duty, revealing that several organisations are eyeing up talent ahead of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 season.
The discussion followed two OpTic Gaming Halo players announcing their free agency for Black Ops 7 after the Halo Championship Series (HCS) revealed it will retire Halo Infinite once the 2025 season has concluded.
On August 27th, 2025, Adam ‘Bound’ Gray and Jonathan ‘Renegade’ Willette shared their intentions to compete in Call of Duty as a result of the HCS no longer hosting Halo Infinite tournaments as 343 Industries turns its attention to developing the next Halo title.
“You guys should try to play CoD,” said FormaL. “What else are you going to do? Are you going to play two’s all year? You’d be surprised at how many pro teams in CoD are actually looking.”
Will Halo Players Switch To Call Of Duty?
While organisations are looking to improve their rosters with the signing of Halo players, the scale of how many will switch to Call of Duty remains unclear.
The likes of FormaL and Anthony ‘Shotzzy‘ Cuevas-Castro have made the switch in previous seasons, with both cementing themselves as household names after securing world championship titles in both Halo and Call of Duty.
Considering the success of Halo players who have moved, it will be interesting to see which players manage to transfer their skills over to a new title.
