Last weekend, Team Falcons Call of Duty: Warzone player Kasimili ‘Soka‘ Tongamoa threw the first pitch at the Athletics‘ MLB match against the Los Angeles Angels.
The World Series of Warzone and Esports World Cup winner was a guest of honour during the match that took place on August 17th, 2025.
The 23-year-old from San Mateo, California, has cemented his place as one of the best Warzone players in the world, with several notable event victories to his name.
In July 2024, he joined Team Falcons alongside Andrew ‘Biffle‘ Diaz and Shifty, and has since become a household name within Call of Duty’s battle royale title.
In the past year, the trio has won all of Warzone’s major esports tournaments, including the World Series of Warzone 2024 and the Esports World Cup 2024.
Soka throwing the ceremonial first pitch isn’t the first time an esports player has joined forces with a Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise. In 2023, former OpTic Gaming player Seth ‘Scump‘ Abner threw the first pitch at a Texas Rangers match.
Call of Duty: Warzone In 2025
The Call of Duty: Warzone esports scene has continued to grow over the course of 2025, with new organisations entering the scene and new talent rising through the ranks.
The title’s Esports World Cup 2025 event, won by Twisted Minds, hit a peak of over 300,000 viewers according to Esports Charts, making it the fourth most-watched Warzone event of all time.
Despite attracting impressive viewing figures and some of the biggest organisations in the world, the future of Warzone’s esports scene looks uncertain.
In July, Activision revealed that the World Series of Warzone 2025 event won’t have spectators, much to the annoyance of fans and players competing at the event. The competition is set to take place on October 1st, 2025.
