Supernova 2025 had a crazy Top 8 in the biggest Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament in history.

After being revealed as the second-best Melee player in the world in the official rankings, Zain Naghmi took a massive victory at Supernova 2025, beating top players like Cody Schwab and Juan ‘Hungrybox’ DeBiedma.

It was a pretty easy run for Zain, who barely dropped any games for the entirety of the weekend. He was on a roll — and when he’s on a roll, he’s pretty tough to stop. On the Winners side, Zain took down Kurtis ‘moky’ Pratt 3-1 and then Cody Schwab 3-1 for a clean path to the Grand Finals.

On Losers, Cody had to beat long-time rival Hungrybox to return to the Grand Finals to face Zain. Hungrybox had taken down Avery ‘Ginger’ Wilson, a formerly retired Falco main, to face Cody in the Losers Finals. It was a valiant back and forth between Cody’s Fox and Hungrybox’s Jigglypuff, but Cody prevailed — the best Fox in the game, according to Hungrybox.

“I hate Fox, man,” Hungrybox ranted on X. “On EVERYTHING I will figure this bulls— matchup out. On everything.”

This left us with a Fox versus Marth matchup for the Grand Finals. Cody would need to win twice since he was coming from Losers, so Zain was sitting pretty once again.

Cody got the first win, looking quite determined to turn it all around. But Zain was not having it, using his crazy down airs to expertly guard the edge, taking down Cody early. The second game easily went to Zain.

It was a bit of a back-and-forth, with Cody and Zain both reaching 2 games in the first match. Would Cody bring them to the bracket reset? Not with Zain on defense, continuously guarding the edge with jabs, grabs, and everything else he could throw at Cody’s Fox.

Zain has now won two Supernova titles in a row. After the pop-off, Zain said that he’s just ‘super happy’ to have won, especially since he proved the haters wrong. A lot of fans felt he would be off his game since he was playing with Kirby on stream, but Zain said it actually ‘helped a little.’

Either way, the practice paid off.
