North American League of Legends organisation FlyQuest has revealed a merchandise collaboration with fashion brand Von Dutch following a day of speculation about the team’s future in the esport.

The collection includes plenty of edgy, black clothing, including a knit sweater, cap and t-shirt. The merch includes ‘League is Dead’ written in a gothic script.

The merch announcement came after FlyQuest posted an ominous message on X that referenced the recent departures of several major North American organisations from League of Legends.

“Since 2017, FlyQuest has been a proud part of the League of Legends ecosystem,” the initial post stated. “However, it’s impossible to ignore how much the landscape has changed. With the exits of organisations like Team SoloMid, Counter Logic Gaming, Evil Geniuses, and most recently 100 Thieves, we have had to look inward as a company.”

The teaser prompted speculation across the League community before FlyQuest revealed it was launching a clothing collaboration.

Marketing Campaign Sparks Community Discussion

The campaign featured a promotional video showing gravestones of former North American League of Legends teams alongside current FlyQuest players as models for the merchandise.

“‘League is Dead’ is a phrase some people have been throwing around for years, but despite the talk, it’s still the most played and watched esport in the world,” FlyQuest stated in its announcement. “Some teams rolled over and died when things got difficult. Others who stayed are playing it safe. FlyQuest isn’t doing either.”

Several prominent community figures praised the marketing approach, though it prompted some to highlight broader concerns about the North American League ecosystem.

Christopher ‘PapaSmithy’ Smith, President & Chief Gaming Officer of FlyQuest, defended the campaign on X: “When I first entered esports in a full-time capacity over 10 years ago, one of the first things I was told by industry people was that League of Legends was dying and not to tie myself to it.”

He added: “Being a one-eyed believer in League of Legends got me this far — League is dead, long live League!”

The campaign arrives amid ongoing challenges for League of Legends viewership in North America. The Legends of the Americas (LTA) North Split 2 recorded a slight decrease in peak viewership compared to the first split. The viewership figures represent the lowest among all major regions, with numbers significantly down from the former LCS format and average viewership falling below the LCP.

Multiple major organisations have departed the North American League scene in recent years, citing various factors, including financial sustainability concerns.
