Team Liquid has officially parted ways with Korean League of Legends player Jeong ‘Impact‘ Eon-young, ending his second stint on the team.
The announcement came with a farewell video from the top laner, who went over what went wrong for him individually and his plans for the foreseeable future.
“I think what I did last year was [a] good thing. I was confident in what I wanted to do, decision-making, and everything. But I think this year, I didn’t do my job very well,” explained Impact in the video.
He also added that he is planning to take a break to briefly rediscover himself, as he felt like he was not having fun playing the game anymore and losing passion:
“My problem is that I cannot control my emotions too much because I’m kind of an honest guy,” he added.
The veteran also revealed that a recent breakup with his long-term girlfriend, combined with Team Liquid’s lack of performance, were the main reasons behind his struggles. Impact explained that he wants to take time to reflect on his goals and even consider travelling alone before deciding what comes next.
“If I can’t find a new team, then I’ll still do my best — whether that’s practising on my own or helping scrims for other teams — so I’ll be ready when the time comes.”
North America Loses One of Its OG Top Laner
Having started out playing professionally in 2012, Impact has over 13 years of competitive experience.
After winning the world championship with Faker back in 2013 on SKT Telecom T1, Impact moved to North America in 2015, playing for Team Impulse, NRG Esports, Cloud9, Team Liquid, Evil Geniuses and FlyQuest. As a result, he has gone on to become a household name with North American League of Legends.
In particular, Team Liquid is one of the teams where Impact had his most success, winning a total of six splits and one MVP award.
Following a disappointing end to the 2025 campaign and having failed to qualify for the League of Legends World Championship, Team Liquid is set to make a series of changes during the offseason. Aside from Impact, his fellow Korean teammate Jo ‘CoreJJ‘ Yong-in has his contract expiring at the end of the year, according to the Global Contract Database (GCD). The other three TL players (APA, Yuuji, and Yeon) still have contracts running for one more season.
