German esports organisation Unicorns of Love has announced that it is offering up to 11% of the company through a crowdfunding campaign.

Utilising crowdfunding platform Crowdcube, early access registration is open with the round expected to start ‘in the coming days’.

According to the announcement, this is the first time Unicorns of Love is providing a stake in the company to its community.

On social media, the organisation stated: “It all started with five amateur players, a crazy name, and even crazier picks. Today, Unicorns of Love stands on the edge of something bigger than ever. Now, we’re taking the next step — together with you.

“For the first time, we’re opening up to the community and offering up to 11% of the company to those who helped build this journey. We want you to own a real stake in our future.”

With the funding round yet to officially open, there is no indication of how much the company is estimated to raise at this time.

What are Unicorns of Love?

Founded in 2014, Unicorns of Love is primarily known for its long tenure in League of Legends. In its debut year, the League of Legends team, which consisted of players such as Tristan ‘PowerOfEvil’ Schrage, Zdravets ‘Hylissang’ Galabov and Tamás ‘Vizicsacsi’ Kiss, secured promotion to the EU LCS (now LEC).

Unicorns of Love would regularly compete in Europe’s top league, finishing second place twice in the EU LCS Spring 2015 and 2017 splits. However, the organisation was not selected as a franchise partner by Riot Games when the LEC model was formed in 2019.

Since then, the organisation has regularly competed in League of Legends’ ecosystem through the LCL until 2021 and in the German scene. Some of its accolades during this time include competing in three League of Legends World Championships via LCL qualification (2019, 2020, and 2021) as well as winning three Prime League splits (Summer 2022, Spring 2023 and Summer 2024).

Outside of League of Legends, Unicorns of Love also previously competed in Counter-Strike 2, Wild Rift, PUBG Mobile and VALORANT.

Crowdfunding in Epsorts

Notably, Unicorns of Love is not the first esports organisation to utilise Crowdcube to secure funding.

Back in 2020, UK-based esports organisation Fantic announced that it was doing a crowd equity campaign with Crowdcube following its $10m (~£7.54m) investment round. After aiming to secure £1m, the organisation raised a total of £1.7m through 3450 investors

In 2024, North American esports organisation Sentinels also raised nearly $200,000 from 110 investors through a funding campaign on StartEngine

Once done, we then rank each platform based on the following tiers:
  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
  • S-Tier Reserved for elite operators only. These go well beyond the norm with lucrative bonuses, rewarding promotions, lightning-fast payouts, and a flawless experience overall.
