MOONTON has announced its first-ever Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) esports league in Thailand, bringing the Super League (MSL) to the Southeast Asian country.

Season 1 of the MSL Thailand is set to kick off soon, with eight teams invited to compete. Notably, this includes some significant organisations from the country.

The inaugural participants for MSL Thailand Season 1 include Bacon Time, Buriram United Esports, eArena, FULL SENSE, TALON, Hydra, King of Gamers Club, and SOLYX.

The Super League isn’t a new tournament series. MOONTON already operates an MSL in Myanmar. The key differentiator between it and the MPL appears to be that the latter is for more established and larger regions, while the MSL caters to developing or newer ecosystems.

While the official format of the MSL Thailand hasn’t been announced yet, it will likely be similar to Myanmar’s, which follows a single round-robin Regular Season leading into the Playoffs. In Myanmar, the total number of teams is 10, out of which two are from open qualifiers.

MOONTON will likely introduce an open qualifier for the MSL Thailand as well.

This tournament marks the first time since 2017 that a standalone competition by the developer is being organised in Thailand. The previous one was the MLBB Southeast Asia Cup (now rebranded to the Mid-Season Cup), where a Thailand qualifier was held.

In fact, the winner of the Thailand qualifier, IDONOTSLEEP, went on to win the inaugural SEA Cup 2017. Thailand, where Arena of Valor has dominated in terms of player base, has always been part of the MLBB esports ecosystem, but it was bundled into other regions such as Laos and Vietnam.

All eight invited teams are major names in Arena of Valor’s ROV Pro League (RPL), which is hosted by Garena. Their entry into MLBB marks a significant win for MOONTON as it aims to grow its player base in Thailand.

More details about the MSL Thailand Season 1 should be coming soon. In the meantime, the M7 World Championship is underway in Indonesia to crown a new world champion.
