Top Street Fighter 6 contender Victor ‘Punk’ Woodley has announced that he won’t be able to compete at Capcom Cup 12, one of the biggest events of the year.
“Sad to say I won’t be able to compete at Capcom Cup this year,” Punk wrote on X. “Had some passport issues and was not able to get a new one fast enough to attend. Sorry to everyone I let down.
“We will be back next year, aiming even harder for the win!”
It’s an unfortunate update from Punk, who ultimately placed second on the Capcom Pro Tour global leaderboard going into the prestigious championship. He finished with 600 points after many high placements throughout 2025, including a first-place finish at LVL UP EXPO and third-place finishes at CEO 2025 and FightClub Championship VI Chengdu.
Tokido’s Capcom Cup Opportunity
Sections of the FGC were upset by Punk’s situation. However, many fans are excited to watch Hajime ‘Tokido’ Taniguchi compete in his place, the next eligible player on the leaderboard who just missed the cut.
“Tokido will compete in the same group and match order that were originally assigned to Punk,” Capcom noted.
Tokido had a pretty consistent 2025 season, although he didn’t reach the same levels as Punk. He placed first at the Asian Champions League 2025, a Tier 1 event, but then placed 17th-24th at CEO 2025, 193rd-256th at Evo and 21st-24th at the Esports World Cup. However, his long career in Street Fighter has earned Tokido a great deal of respect, and the FGC has expressed excitement about his performance.
Well, this is if the FGC is willing to pay the pay-per-view price for Capcom Cup 12. Capcom recently lowered its pay-per-view prices for the Finals, which softened the blow a little bit for fans who didn’t want to pay to watch the event.
The Capcom Cup 12 will take place on March 14th.
