Game developer Riot Games has announced the Wild Circuit, a new off-season tournament series for its mobile title League of Legends: Wild Rift.
The tournament series, which is set to be played during the summer off-season, has been created to allow teams and players to better prepare for the upcoming competitive season.
The Wild Circuit will include all the regions where Riot Games has official Wild Rift leagues.
Wild Rift esports has undergone a number of changes to its competitive structure throughout 2022. In January, Riot Games announced that the game would have a revamped tournament structure. Moreover, the Icons Global Championship, Wild Rift’s biggest LAN tournament to date, concluded in late June.
The upcoming Wild Circuit is aimed at both professional Wild Rift organisations, as well as smaller teams, to practice and stay in form in the off-season. The series will consist of a number of tournaments organised by third-party organisers from July 18th to October 23rd.
These include the Snapdragon Pro Series and Weibo Cup in China, the Rift MSTRS Wild Rift tournament in North America and Wild Circuit Asia Invitational in the SEA region. The Wild Cricut will also hold tournaments in other regions such as Brazil and Latin America.
Interestingly, Riot did not mention what EMEA regional tournaments will be taking place in the initial announcement. However, the company did share that third-party organisers can reach out to Riot Games if interested.
Wild Rift is a popular mobile game, but the numbers from the Icons Championship leave much to be desired. Only 53,000 peak viewers were recorded for the final tournament, despite the event having a $2m prize pool. In comparison, The MLBB Southeast Asia Cup 2022 attracted almost 3m peak viewers, despite having a much smaller prize pool.
