Belgian esports organisation Sector One has announced the indefinite halt of its esports activities, both on a national and international level.
According to Sector One’s official statement, the decision was made due to ROI and financial inflow being insufficient.
It comes as a surprise that Sector One wasn’t able to secure financial capital to continue its operations, as during 2022 the organisation launched several new projects. In June 2022, Sector One unveiled the Wings Program, which was described as a project aimed towards ‘shaping young gamers into the professional esports athletes of tomorrow’.
Throughout the year, the organisation also revealed its VALORANT team for VRL France, a Rocket League roster, as well as a special roster for the League Of Legends Elite Series. Sector One also used to boast rosters in FIFA and Fortnite throughout 2021.
As Sector One’s VALORANT team was currently competing in the VALORANT Challengers France, its fate was unknown at first. However, the organisers of the tournament have since confirmed that the entire roster will remain together, and continue competing under the name Benelux United.
Sector One had collaborations with a number of brands, including telecommunications giant Orange Belgium, energy drink brand Red Bull and esports data company Statrics. The organisation hasn’t issued a statement regarding its partners yet. In 2021, the organisation also briefly collaborated with German automotive marque BMW, according to its website.
In the official statement, Sector One stated: “2022 marked a year with unmatched success for our organisation, growing to one of the most advanced projects in our region. Unfortunately, maintaining the high standards and expectations we have set seems impossible, in the current ecosystem where ROI and financial inflow is insufficient.
“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all players, staff and friends who have walked the Sector One paths, as well as all partners and especially Orange Belgium for their faith in our project during these years.”
Sector One was founded in 2014 and remained in operation until 2023.
