Canadian game marketing solutions provider TGS Esports has announced an asset purchase agreement with Canadian esports organisation Lazarus Esports.

As a result of the purchase, TGS will acquire all of Lazarus’ IP and assets as well as retain some of the organisation’s staff. Financial details of the purchase have not been disclosed.

In the announcement, it specifically mentions that Lazarus’ Charlie Watson (CEO), Nick Rhoades (Director of Talent) and Tyler Johnston (Marketing Manager) will gain TGS employment agreements with titles yet to be determined. Other Lazarus contractors will also be used by TGS.

In a release, TGS has stated that the acquisition demonstrates the company’s commitment to building ‘a foundation for a healthy gaming and esports industry’. Alongside signing a purchase agreement with Lazarus, TGS is undergoing its own potential acquisition by llinois-based company Midnight Gaming. The cost of TGS’ assets is estimated to cost around $13.9m (~£11.2m).

Founded in 2018, TGS Esports built Canada’s first dedicated gaming arena and has since offered full-service esports broadcast solutions to clients.

Lazarus joined the esports industry in 2010 and has competitive rosters spanning multiple games including Crossfire, NHL 23 and Gran Turismo as well as the FGC. The organisation’s roster also expands outside of esports with its talent network including content creators and influencers.

“With the wealth of experience, insight and talent that the Lazarus organization has assembled, we’re going to find new and exciting ways to connect, unite and engage the many communities of gaming fans around the world with  content, events and programs tailored to the titles and genres we all cherish and love.”

TGS will also take over and execute any existing contracts currently signed with Lazarus. This includes the organisation’s esports team-wide sponsorship with a hockey equipment manufacturer Warrior Sports.
