Game publisher Riot Games has announced Soul Fighter: Fight Night, a creator competition to celebrate Riot’s latest activation that is taking over its Runeterra titles.
The event is set to take place in Los Angeles, California, and will be broadcast live on Twitch on July 17th.
Described as a broadcast experience, Soul Fighter: Fight Night will showcase 16 content creators as they engage in a variety of in-game and real-life challenges, all vying for the coveted title of Fight Night Champion. Names of the participating creators have not yet been revealed.
The creator competition and broadcast is an integral part of Riot Games’ broader, newly-announced Soul Fighter event, which pays homage to the fighting game genre. Spanning six weeks from July 20th to August 28th, this event will introduce an array of new content across League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and Legends of Runeterra.
New game modes, skins, gameplay features, and more will be added across all four of Riot Games’ Runeterra titles.
Andrei van Roon, Head of League Studio at Riot Games, commented on the event: “We’re really excited for the range of different experiences across the League of Legends ecosystem that make up the Soul Fighter event. Arena, Soul Brawl, and Tag Duel will let players experience League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics and Wild Rift, respectively, in new ways that we think bring something really fresh to the table. We can’t wait to see what players think once they get their hands on them.”
The news of the Soul Fighter event comes after Riot Games experienced a tumultuous start to the 2023 LCS Summer Split. The competition was postponed for two weeks following the league’s players association, the LCSPA, voting in favour of a player walkout.
As for its other Runeterra titles, earlier this year the publisher announced that the first-ever Teamfight Tactics (TFT) LAN tournament will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada in December. The company has also confirmed that the that the Legends of Runeterra World Championship will return in 2023, with several structural changes.
It has also been widely publicised that Riot Games is creating a fighting game, simply called Project L as of this moment.
