The 2023 RLCS Spring Split Major has become the second-most-popular Rocket League esports event in the title’s history, recording a peak viewership of 323,000.
According to esports data platform Esports Charts, the event, which was ultimately won by French organisation Team Vitality, also garnered an average viewership of 133,212.
The only Rocket League esports event that has recorded a higher peak viewership figure was the RLCS 2021-22 World Championship, which garnered 368,721.
The Spring Major continues to highlight Rocket League’s growing popularity as an esport with five of the top 10 most viewed events taking place in 2022 and 2023 — though viewership is still a mark below other major esports titles.
Despite this year’s Split Major taking place in the United States, it was the competition’s French audience that played a major role in the tournament’s viewership success.
Overall French-speaking channels secured a high of 145,734 viewers. This was recorded during the tournament’s Final between Team BDS and Team Vitality. Figures from English-speaking channels peaked at 243,683.
The second most viewed match-up of the competition was a French clash between Team Vitality and Karmine Corp, which also occurred on the final day.
The RLCS Spring Split Major is the last Major in Rocket League’s 2022-2023 competitive season, with the tournament boasting a prize pool of $310,000 (~£240,500). The final international event will be the RLCS 2022-23 World Championship, taking place in Germany at the PSD Bank Dome.
Separate to the RLCS, Rocket League will be represented at the upcoming Gamers8 festival with the title hosting a $2m (~£1.55m) tournament in August.
