UK esports organisation Lionscreed has secured a ‘six-figure’ headline sponsorship with London-based fintech company Plutus.

Lionscreed’s COO Dale Adams highlighted that the partnership will enable the organisation to launch “a multitude of projects and tournaments.” Exact financial terms of the sponsorship have not been disclosed.

The partnership deal was brokered by the Media Exchange Group.

Founded in 2015, Plutus provides similar financial products offered by banks but integrates cryptocurrency and rewards programmes into its services. For example, users that spend with a Plutus card earn 3% back in digital rewards.

Plutus states that the perks users receive are also tailored to the user. Alongside its partnership with Lionscreed, the company has announced its intention to expand further into the esports and gaming sector. Currently, Plutus has integrated brands such as PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam into its perks and rewards programme.

Adams commented on the partnership: “With Plutus’ support, we can offer the finest events and opportunities to everyone, including those engaged in our new educational mission. We already have exciting plans for community events at New Meta, and activations at EGX, Insomnia and ESI London in the upcoming months, with more to follow.”

Speaking to Esports Insider, Plutus stated that its relationship with Lionscreed first came to life when their teams met at Twitchcon 2023. A Plutus representative described the partnership as “a natural fit that emerged from a shared love for crypto and gaming.”

It’s interesting to note that both Plutus and Lionscreed are London-based. From a marketing perspective, the UK, followed by Germany, is also Plutus’ largest market.

Currently competing regionally in Fortnite and League of Legends, Lionscreed is an esports organisation that has put an emphasis on creating a diverse and inclusive community. This included launching Lionsclash earlier this year, a UK university and colleges tournament series. The first edition’s finals took place at ESI Next Gen event at the University of Warwick in March.

Plutus CEO, Danial Daychopan, further discussed the company’s expansion into esports and gaming: “Since the rollout of our gaming Perks in May, a substantial portion of our user base has enthusiastically embraced one or more of these offers. This trend clearly shows the appeal Plutus’ reward card has within the gaming community, as it effortlessly enables them to earn rewards through everyday purchases, including game-related expenses.

“PLU Rewards are the most effective way to introduce Web2 consumers to Web3, and this collaboration with Lionscreed is a major step towards our long-term goal of dominating the gaming sector.”

  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
  • S-Tier Reserved for elite operators only. These go well beyond the norm with lucrative bonuses, rewarding promotions, lightning-fast payouts, and a flawless experience overall.
