Mobile esports tournament circuit Snapdragon Pro Series has announced that Free Fire will have a Mobile Masters event, the series’ highest tier of competition.
From April 12th-14th, 2024, twelve teams from Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region will compete for a share of $400,000 (~£315,196) in prize money.
The 12 teams competing in the Snapdragon Pro Series Free Fire event will earn places through ‘Mobile Challenge-level competitions’. This includes the Snapdragon Pro Series Mobile Challenge Finals taking place in Sao Paulo, Brazil from February 24th-25th, 2024. Teams will compete for a $40,000 (~£31,512) prize pool and six Mobile Masters places.
Developed by Garena, Free Fire is a popular mobile shooter esports title. The game returned to India following a year-and-a-half ban due to national security concerns in August. Moreover, it holds the record for the second most-viewed esports event with its 2021 Free Fire World Series recording peak viewing figures of 6.4m according to Esports Charts.
In addition to Free Fire, the Snapdragon Pro Series Mobile Masters will also hold a Call of Duty: Mobile event in 2024. Eight teams representing six regions will compete from April 12th-13th, 2024, for a chance to win a share of a $200,000 (~£157,566) prize pool.
2023 marked a year of expansion for the Snapdragon Pro Series. In April, ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) unveiled an expanded roadmap that allowed players and teams from Latin America to compete. Last year also saw Snapdragon host a Mobile Masters event for Brawl Stars in Japan.
Sam Braithwaite, Vice President of Game Ecosystems, Mobile, at Snapdragon Pro Series, spoke on the news: “At the halfway point of the SPS Year 2, we’ve already seen nearly 50% more players and more than double the hours watched compared to Year 1.
“Mobile Masters is set to be the culmination of that growth trajectory, with the world’s best coming to our newest region. We’re excited to welcome fans from around the globe to Brazil as we crown new World Champions.”
