The Memphis Grizzlies’ NBA 2K League team, Grizz Gaming, have announced a new team sponsorship with FedEx.

The delivery company is actually headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee and already holds a major partnership with the Memphis Grizzlies as the title company of the team’s home court, FedExForum Arena. This partnership will see FedEx advertisement on Grizz Gaming’s virtual home court just like their NBA counterpart. According to the announcement FedEx will also present custom-branded digital content features through social media and digital channels.

Lang Whitaker, Grizz Gaming General Manager commented on the partnership: “Grizz Gaming is thrilled to team up with such an esteemed, locally-based and globally-focused organization in FedEx. We’re excited to build on an already great relationship and further engage with the greater Memphis community and beyond through multiple avenues in this endeavor.”

Jason Wexler, President of Business Operations for Grizz Gaming added: “We are extremely pleased for Grizz Gaming to team with FedEx and further build upon our strong relationship. In continuing with our inaugural season, we are eager to collaborate with FedEx in building a connection with an esports fan base that continues to be bolstered by the NBA 2K League.”

This is seemingly the first major esports sponsorship for FedEx while Grizz Gaming holds partnerships with America’s Navy and Alienware as well.

Patrick Fitzgerald, Senior Vice President of Integrated Marketing and Communications for FedEx said the company is looking forward to furthering its impact in esports: “Esports and competitive gaming are rapidly evolving and offer engaging digital opportunities for the FedEx brand to reach new audiences. We’re proud to be able to enter this new dimension in sports sponsorship by building on one of our most successful sports sponsorships and teaming up with the Memphis Grizzlies and Grizz Gaming for its inaugural season.”

Esports Insider says: Another day, another NBA 2K league sponsor. What’s better than a non-endemic sponsor? A local non-endemic sponsor! This is great to see for the Grizz organisation with FedEx holding their headquarters in Memphis. Regardless of what some might think about the beginning of the league, companies obviously have faith in it.
