PUBG Mobile Esports has announced that the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2024 will take place in the United Kingdom.
The tournament will kick off in November with the Grand Finals to be hosted in December with a $3m (~£2.38m) prize pool, though the exact location has yet to be revealed.
The tournament will mark the first time a major PUBG Mobile esports tournament has taken place in the UK, and is the first in western Europe since 2018. The location within the UK will be revealed ‘at a later date’, according to a release.
The PMGC is the culminating tournament in the PUBG Mobile esports calendar. It is a global tournament with regional championships including Southeast Asia, South Asia, MENA, Americas and Europe providing qualifying spots to the event.
Additionally, next year will see the inaugural edition of the brand new global PUBG Mobile Global Open (PMGO) event take place in Brazil. Scheduled to play out from March to April 2024, it will feature a $500,000 (~£397,000) prize pool.
Moreover, PUBG Mobile Esports also announced that the ‘new and improved’ PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI), a midseason tournament, will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The announcement was made during the opening ceremony of this year’s PUBG Mobile Global Championship, which is currently taking place from today through to December 10th in Istanbul, Turkey.
Previous editions of PUBG Mobile Championship have seen impressive viewership. The 2022 Global Championship drew over 850,000 peak viewers, 273,000 average viewers and 27m hours watched across 100 hours of airtime, per viewership data platform Esports Charts.
More and more esports tournaments have been coming to the UK recently, including events in League of Legends, Apex Legends, Rocket League and others. In 2024, two major esports events are lined up to take place in London — the League of Legends World Championship finals and the BLAST Premier Spring Final.
