Game developer Garena has announced that the 2024 edition of the Free Fire World Series Global Finals will take place in Brazil.
Free Fire’s largest esports tournament heads to South America in November, five years after the first running of the event which took place in Rio de Janeiro.
The season-ending tournament will feature 18 teams competing for a chance to become Free Fire World Series champions. According to a release, ‘more details’ surrounding the event will be revealed in the coming months.
Free Fire is a mobile battle royale shooter title that continues to prove popular across Asia and South America. The 2021 Free Fire World Series Global Finals is the second most-watched esports event ever by peak viewership, recording 5.4m viewers for the opening round of the tournament. However, since this accolade, the scene has decreased in popularity with last year’s Global Finals securing 570,515 peak viewers.
In December 2023, the Free Fire circuits in Brazil, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Middle East and Africa (MENA) rebranded under the World Series banner in a bid to standardise the ecosystem and make it easier for fans across different markets to understand.
In January 2024, Garena unveiled the roadmap for the 2024 Free Fire season. Alongside the Global Finals, the circuit will now feature a mid-season tournament where the winner will receive direct qualification to the Global Finals.
Outside of Garena’s World Series circuit, Free Fire continues to feature across other mobile esports events. In 2023, the title joined the Snapdragon Pro Series operated by ESL FACEIT Group (EFG). The title returns to the circuit in April 2024, when the Mobile Masters heads to São Paulo, Brazil from April 12th to 14th.
