Esports bookmaker 1win recently announced that it is hosting a $1m (~£785,000) Dota 2 tournament called the 1win Dota 2 Series. We’ve put together a recap of the talent lineup, and how to follow the action.
The inaugural edition of the 1Win Dota 2 Series takes place online from March 16th-19th.
The format will see the eight teams divided into two groups. Matches are scheduled to be played using the GSL system, a form of double-elimination bracket. Essentially, teams will have three attempts to qualify for the next round. If a team loses twice, the organisation is faced with elimination.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for playoffs, with the four teams seeded into a single-elimination format. Matches will be in best-of-three (Bo3) format except the final, which will be a Bo5 series.
In total, six talent members will work at the championship. 1win has named British caster Robb ‘Robbnroll’ Blakema as the event’s host. Robbnroll will be joined by the following casters and analysts:
- Nikola ‘hairy_freak’ Babić (Serbian)
- Milan ‘MiLAN’ Kozomara (Bosnian/Serbian)
- Tim ‘DKtruman’ de Lange (Dutch)
- Gustavo ‘Bowie’ Mattos (Brazilian)
- Lachlan ‘Ares’ Williams (Australian)
The Dota 2 event, as you might expect, is being broadcast on both Twitch and YouTube. The English channel will be broadcast on 1win_series_dota_2_eng, while the CIS stream will be available on 1win_series_dota_2_cis. There are also English YouTube and CIS YouTube streams.
The 1Win Dota 2 Series is the latest example of a bookmaker organising its own esports tournament itself, rather than simply sponsoring a third-party tournament — a growing trend in esports.
