PUBG Corporation is opening a custom game mode for players on test servers for its hit Battle Royale title, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

This mode allows players to have control of functions such as item spawn rates, team sizes, and circle behaviour. If this mode proves popular and works as expected, then the aim of the developer is to move it onto live servers.

In the announcement, it was alluded to that this custom feature may be tucked away behind a paywall in the future should it move onto live servers. This may be worthwhile for professional players and aspiring competitors as this custom mode allows them to recreate or simulate in-game situations for practice.

PUBG Corp. has made another update recently, too, by partnering with Multiplay to host its European servers. Its new partner is owned by Unity Technologies and operates solely to host game servers – currently offering its services to titles such as Rocket League.

Chang Han Kim, CEO of PUBG Corp. said the following about its new partner: “This partnership with Multiplay will allow us to improve our game server’s performance and deliver a smoother experience to PUBG fans in Europe. Multiplay’s expertise and dedication, paired with the resources that Unity offers have made them key partners we love working with. We look forward to building a long term partnership with the team at Unity.”

If the custom mode is a success and is moved onto live servers, PUBG Corp. will be hoping that Multiplay’s involvement will help to make for a smooth transition and overall positive experience for players – especially considering the majority of PUBG esports takes place online.

Esports Insider says: This is a huge step in the right direction for PUBG and Battle Royale esports in general. Traditional sports regularly practice particular drills to prepare for specific scenarios, and this custom mode will provide the same opportunity. It’s worth remembering that PUBG was a result of a mod in ARMA 2, so you could say it’s embracing its roots a little with this update.

  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
