Riot Games, the developer behind League of Legends, has partnered with EOB Esports Academy to launch an event.
The event, which will see 13 students take part, will be hosted at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere in London on August 19th, and will be funded by the Prince’s Trust.
Over the past four weeks, League of Legends players have been learning from masterclasses and workshops led by industry figures and professional players. This event will be mark the culmination of what’s been taught over third, with the students putting their new-found knowledge to the test.
Steve Godwin, Director of Operations at EOB Esports Academy said: “Riot Games have been a big inspiration for starting the EOB Esports Academy, I could see how young people could become stronger individuals by playing League of Legends. The guys at Riot Games have been very supportive and through a chance meeting with Mo Fadl head of esports, we started making this course a reality.”
The EOB Esports Academy is a UK-based initiative that helps students to learn about the industry – whether that’s creating and managing a successful team, working out the different roles available in esports, or how to operate effectively within a team.
Mo Fadl, Head of Esports at Riot Games added: “Riot is committed to furthering the esports ecosystem and providing new talent with an opportunity to learn and grow. We are very excited to help the EOB Esports Academy with their first tournament. Having spoken to the students taking part I can already see myself working for them in the future!”
Esports Insider says: Education on esports is steadily on the rise in the UK, with more and more universities offering courses on the industry. It’s nice to see a company that’s the size of Riot Games getting involved with grassroots initiatives, this is something that will need to continue for the foreseeable future if the esports industry is going to keep growing at the rate it currently is. Riot Games is well versed in running tournaments – considering it cut out many third-party organisers to run its own competitions – so it appears to be a good partner for EOB.
