The Collegiate StarLeague (CSL) is celebrating its 10th anniversary with $175,000 (£135,000) in scholarship prizes and more games.

The CSL started in the spring of 2009 with 25 schools competing in StarCraft: Brood War. Through the years, the collegiate league featured many games and different formats. In the 2018-2019 season, the collegiate league is adapting to the recent trends and including the battle royale genre in the competition.

Nine games are featured in the CSL with different pool prizes. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive ($30,000), League of Legends ($10,000), Dota 2 ($30,000), Super Smash Bros. Melee ($15,000), Super Smash Bros. Ultimate ($15,000), and Madden NFL 19 ($10,000) continue to be part of the league. Rocket League ($10,000) and Fortnite ($40,000) are the two new additions to the competition. To celebrate the anniversary, the CSL is bringing back StarCraft II ($5,000) into the mix.

Games like CS: GO and Dota 2 will include two divisions, Varsity, and Junior Varsity. The CSL is creating more opportunities for the teams taking part in the Riot’s College League of Legends season. Those competing in Fortnite must do it in duos, and the CSL is opening multiple competitions through the year. Madden NFL will host two separate competitions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

In ten years, the CSL went from hosting 25 schools to a strong presence in 1,600 campuses across the United States. Tens of thousands of students are entering the competitions every year for a chance to win a scholarship.

Registration for the different events started on September 1 and will end on October 6.

Esports Insider says: Collegiate esports are important, not only are they a platform for new talent but also a great way to promote esports as a whole. Esports scholarships are a reality across North America, now young people can aspire to pursue a college education without giving up esports.

  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
