Call of Duty: Mobile has announced it has restricted the use of Wildcards ahead of the 2025 World Championship.

The change to the ruleset was added to Call of Duty: Mobile’s esports settings page on May 19th, 2025, along with the restriction of the D13 Sector Operator.

Wildcards first arrived in Call of Duty: Mobile as part of the title’s Season 3: Cyber Mirage update in March, adding another layer of customisation to the loadouts of players competing in Ranked matches and official tournaments.

“Wildcards are currently under review for the 2025 World Championships,” reads a statement within the title’s rule changelogs. “Depending on their development throughout the year, their restriction status may or may not be updated in the future.”

Qualifiers for the Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship began in April and feature a mixture of solo and team-based qualifications, making the title open to all players.

Call of Duty: Mobile Wildcards Explained

Wildcards are in-game items that have been directly integrated into Call of Duty: Mobile’s Ranked mode. Players can unlock a total of four Wildcards by purchasing them using points earned during Ranked matches.

The Wildcards provide players with new customisation options which include the ability to carry two primary weapons, increase the capacity of lethal and tactical equipment, and the ability to equip two Perks from the red category.

How Will it Impact Esports?

Depending on how the Wildcard review goes, the rules in Call of Duty: Mobile esports could change again to include the items as part of the title’s competitive ruleset. For now, through, Wildcards won’t be present in competitive matches for the time being.

With qualifiers for the World Championship already underway, the changes do impact teams that expected to utilise the Wildcard system for the esport title’s season-ending event.
