Doritos has announced a partnership with Twitch to host an event at TwitchCon this year. The Doritos Bowl will see four streamers: Ninja, Shroud, CouRage and DrLupo as team captains to face each other in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s new battle royale mode, Blackout. The mode has been in beta for the past week and has regularly topped the Twitch charts as the most-viewed game.

Leslie Vesper, senior director of marketing, Frito-Lay North America said: “Doritos Bowl takes the brand’s long history in gaming to new heights and puts us front and center within the gaming community. When you have names and partners like Doritos, Twitch, and Ninja all joining forces, you know it’s going to be an epic event. We hope this will be something unlike anyone has ever seen in gaming.”

Held in San Jose, California on October 27th, the event will be one of many battle royale games being played at TwitchCon, with Fortnite’s Fall Skirmish and PUBG’s Broadcaster Royale culminating at TwitchCon as well. While the Doritos Bowl is more of a showcase of popular streamers, with only 16 players in the game as opposed to the usual 100, it still contributes to the growing popularity of battle royales in the video game space.

Shroud said: “I am very excited to be involved in Doritos Bowl; the event should be really fun and I am quite interested to see how my team will stack up against the squads that Ninja, DrLupo and CouRage have put together.”

TwitchCon 2018 is being held in San Jose from 26th to 28th October, started in 2015 and has been where Twitch has announced the new features for the site as well as a gathering place for fans and streamers alike.

Esports Insider says: With Black Ops 4 still in beta and releasing two weeks before the event, it’s clear that Doritos has seen the immense buzz around the game in the single week it has been available. While the longevity of the mode has yet to be tested, the success of Blackout, along with Battlefield V’s Firestorm will represent a shift in the battle royale genre.
