Tournament organiser BLAST has announced a three-year partnership with GamingMalta to host a range of Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) and Dota 2 events on the island until 2027.

BLAST will begin its collaboration with GamingMalta by initially hosting nine events in Malta over the next three years. This includes Season 2 of its BLAST Premier Bounty tournament, taking place in August.

In addition to tournament hosting, the event organiser will also open a dedicated broadcasting facility and an office housing a team that will focus on building long-term engagement and event operations within the region.

“Our partnership with GamingMalta makes a major milestone for BLAST, having secured a multi-year partnership to elevate esports and gaming in Malta,” said Robbie Douek, CEO of BLAST. “We’re excited to bring live output, a new studio and competitive entertainment to the island.”

Along with a new studio, BLAST will support GamingMalta’s aim to invest in grassroots initiatives to encourage the growth of the esports industry on the island.

BLAST is one of several esports event operators to host events in Malta. In fact, the country had previously done dealings with another prominent CS2 event organiser, ESL FACEIT Group.

From 2020 to 2024, ESL FACEIT Group partnered with GamingMalta to host editions of its ESL Pro League.

The Growth Of Esports In Malta

In recent years, Malta has continued to expand its presence within the esports industry through its GamingMalta initiative created by the country’s Government and the Malta Gaming Authority.

While the organisation is primarily associated with the world of iGaming, it is also tasked with promoting Malta as a hub for the gaming and esports sector.

For BLAST, joining forces with the organisation continues the event organiser’s expansion across the world. In addition to Malta, it has also expanded into the United States and Asia with events in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Texas.
