Dota 2 Odds Explained

No single one of the best esports betting sites will have the best Dota 2 odds for all markets. We suggest filtering your searches on our tool by bet type

While all esports markets generally use the same betting odds formats, let’s quickly discuss the different Dota 2 betting markets, using American odds as examples.

Match Winner (Moneyline)

  • What Is It? You bet on which team will win the match. Each side has different Dota betting odds to encourage action on both teams.
  • Example: Gaimin Gladiators (+185) is playing PARIVISION (-225). For Gaimin Gladiators, a $100 bet returns $185 in profit, so the total payout is $285. For PARIVISION, you’d need to bet $225 to win $100 in profit.

Map Winner

  • What Is It? This bet focuses on predicting which team will win a specific map or round within a match. It’s typically offered only for the minimum number of maps required to secure the overall victory. For example, in a best-of-three series, you’d generally find two map winner betting options.
  • Example: Suppose you place a Map 2 winner bet on Team Falcons (+130) versus Tundra Esports (-160). Whichever team claims victory on the second map determines the outcome of the wager.

Map Handicap (Spread)

  • What Is It? You pick which team will cover its spread in terms of rounds. The favorite must win the match by a certain margin for a winning wager. Meanwhile, the underdog can still lose as long as it covers its spread.
  • Example: 1w Team (-1.5) is playing Team Zero (+1.5) in a best-of-three match. The favored 1w needs to win the match 2–0 to cover its -1.5 spread. Team Zero can lose 1–2 (or win outright) and still provide a winning bet.

Total Maps (Over/Under)

  • What Is It? Sportsbooks set a total for how many maps will be played. You can wager that the total number of maps played will go over or under the provided line.
  • Example: The over/under is 2.5 maps (total maps played) for a Bo3 match between HEROIC vs Xtreme Gaming. You’ll need the match to hit three maps if you take the over. By contrast, you’d want the match to finish in two maps when betting the under.

Correct Score

  • What Is It? You guess the exact match outcome, including how many rounds each team wins. The bookmaker will present all possible scores for the match. This is also a popular market across all first person shooting games, such as in Call of Duty betting.
  • Example: A beastcoast vs Cloud9 match has exact score bet outcomes of: Cloud9 2–0 (+103), Cloud9 2–1 (+215), beastcoast 2–0 (+547), and beastcoast 2–1 (+446).

First Blood

  • What Is It? Betting on which team will get the first kill of the match. Sometimes it’s paired with another outcome, like Team X first blood and map win.
  • Example: G2.IG (+105) vs Team Spirit (-120) to get first blood. A more detailed wager could be Team Spirit first blood and map win (+130).

First Roshan

  • What Is It? This bet predicts which team will slay the first Roshan — a formidable neutral boss that grants bonus gold, experience, and valuable rewards like the Aegis of the Immortal.
  • Example: BetBoom Team (-145) vs Nouns (+115) to get the first Roshan kill.

First Tower/First Barracks

  • What Is It? A first tower bet hinges on the first team to destroy one of the opponent’s towers. Likewise, the first barracks bet is based on the first squad to take out one of the opponent’s barracks.
  • Example: Entity (+112) vs 1win (-130) to destroy the first tower. Team Zero (-152) vs G2.IG (+117) to destroy the first barracks.

Total Kills Over/Under

  • What Is It? You wager on the over or under for kill totals involving the entire match or a specific round. These bets may combine teams’ totals or just individual sides.
  • Example: Over (-115) / under (-115) 43.5 total match kills for Team Liquid vs Nigma Galaxy. Another example could be over (-108) / under (-112) 27.5 for Team Liquid match kills.

Player Props

  • What Is It? Side bets on specific occurrences not involving the match winner, like if any player will achieve Rampage or Godlike streaks.
  • Example: Will the Aegis of the Immortal be snatched on Map 1? Yes (-333) / No (+875).

Outright/Futures

  • What Is It? You choose one team from the field to win a tournament. You’ll commonly find outright Dota 2 odds for The International leading up to this major event.
  • Example: A sportsbook lists the following Dota 2 odds of winning: Tundra Esports (+325), Team Liquid (+375), Cloud9 (+475), Team Falcons (+600), and Gaimin Gladiators (+750).

Live Betting

  • What Is It? You bet on matches as they’re happening, rather than beforehand, like with pre-match wagering. Bookmakers commonly provide updated Dota 2 live odds for moneylines, handicaps, totals, and more.
  • Example: Xtreme Gaming (-250) is favored over Nouns (+195) going into a Bo3 match. But if Nouns wins the first map, leading sportsbooks may shift match winner odds for Xtreme (-155) and Nouns (+127).

How to Read Dota 2 Odds

This page lets you switch between three types of Dota 2 betting odds, including American, fractional, and decimal. They are typically laid out the same for all major esports markets, including League of Legends, Valorant and Counter-Strike 2 odds.

Let’s discuss how to read the different Dota 2 odds types and go over quick examples.

American Odds

American Dota 2 odds use a minus sign (–) to mark the favorite and a plus sign (+) to show the underdog.

Think of it this way: For favorites, the odds tell you how much you need to stake in order to win $100. For underdogs, they show how much profit a $100 bet would return.

Here’s an example:

Fractional Odds

Popular in the UK, fractional Dota 2 betting odds place the potential profit on the left side (numerator) of the fraction. Meanwhile, the amount you risk is on the right side (denominator)

Let’s check out an example:

Decimal Odds

Decimal Dota 2 betting odds use 2.0 as the benchmark for an even matchup, just as +100 does in American odds and 1/1 in fractional odds. Values below 2.0 signal a favorite, while numbers above 2.0 indicate an underdog.

Interpreting decimal odds is straightforward: they show the total return you’d receive for every dollar you bet.

Why Dota 2 Odds Change

Dota 2 betting odds aren’t shaped only by how well teams play — they also mirror the game’s ever-changing meta and rapid patch cycle, both of which can shift the balance of power in an instant.

Even minor hero adjustments or item updates can send waves through the pro scene, pushing teams to rethink their strategies and influencing how sportsbooks calculate their odds and markets.

Here’s how:

Meta Trends

Dota 2’s competitive environment evolves constantly. As fresh strategies emerge and older ones fall out of favor, the teams that adjust the quickest often become the top picks for oddsmakers.

Whether the meta leans toward early aggression or late-game scaling, these shifts can heavily sway Dota 2 betting odds based on which teams thrive—and which struggle—under the new conditions.

Patch Impact

Every patch has the potential to redefine the game overnight. Changes to heroes, items, and balance force teams to rethink their drafts and overall approach.

Sportsbooks respond just as quickly, frequently updating Dota 2 betting lines before on-stage results even materialize. Squads with flexible hero pools, adaptable rosters, and strong coaching usually see more favorable odds following major updates. shifting their Dota 2 betting odds before the results are even visible. Teams with deep hero pools, adaptable players, and sharp coaching staffs tend to earn more favorable prices in the wake of major updates.
