Singaporean telco company Singtel unveiled a new broadband service, which will utilize Razer’s recently launched gaming router, the Razer Sila. The 1+1 Gbps Fibre Pro Gamer Bundle will also feature a subscription to WTFast, a popular VPN service. Set at S$69.90/mo (£40) on a 24-month contract, the service boasts a 1 Gbps line reserved for gaming, with another 1Gbps for regular usage.

Currently, Singtel offers a 2 Gbps bandwidth line, at a usual price of $69.90/mo (£40), so this bundle seems to be primarily as a vehicle for Razer’s new router. The Razer Sila, launching worldwide at $250 (£190) will be bundled into the plan and is a router designed for wireless gaming. Paired with the dedicated 1 Gbps line, the Sila utilises the “Razer FasTrack” which prioritises bandwidth for gaming devices. It’s unclear if there will be a noticeable change when both priority lanes are in effect.

Yuen Kuan Moon, CEO for Consumer Singapore and Group Chief Digital Officer at Singtel said: “We are pleased to offer our customers this broadband bundle that’s specially designed for online gaming during our inaugural PVP Esports Championship event. By bringing together Singtel’s superior network connectivity and Razer’s Sila gaming router, we believe the 1+1 Gbps Fibre Pro Gamer Bundle will provide the ultimate performance for gamers.”

The bundle will be launched Friday at the opening day of Singtel’s inaugural esports tournament. Singtel has been a driving force for esports and gaming in Singapore but isn’t the first broadcasting company venturing into esports. Malaysian TV broadcaster Astro is bringing the next DOTA 2 Major to Kuala Lumpur, and AT&T partnered with ESL back in June.

Esports Insider says: While the bundle doesn’t seem to have much to offer outside of the Razer router and a VPN subscription, the move signals Singtel’s first attempt at leveraging their esports investments to corner the gaming market. If successful, we could see more companies following suit.
