Telecommunications company, Movistar has announced it will be the new media partner for Madrid Games Week Oct 18-21 at the IFEMA Fairground. The multi-day video game fair will feature tournaments in Clash Royale, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Rainbow Six: Siege, and Gran Turismo. ESL is also a partner of Madrid Games Week and will host the stage for the ESL Masters: Rainbow Six: Siege.

With this partnership, the events throughout Madrid Games Week will be able to be viewed on cable in Spain on dial 60 of Movistar eSports, or on its YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook pages.

This isn’t the first investment into esports and gaming for the broadcast company Telefónica, the mobile operator parent company, established the Movistar Riders Academy earlier this year, along with a partnership with ESL in 2017.

The Movistar Riders esports organisation holds teams in League of Legends, CS:GO, Clash Royale, FIFA, Hearthstone and Call of Duty and Rainbow Six: Siege that compete in the Spanish region

It’s rumoured that the organisation will announce an “important agreement” during the event, but no word as to what it could possibly be.

Esports Insider says: Movistar is obviously a staple in Spanish broadcast and entertainment. The creation of a separate esports organisation and support with events like Madrid Games Week certainly shows how far it’s willing to support esports in that region.
