Sony has revealed the name of PlayStation’s first wireless fight stick controller, now called the FlexStrike, alongside other technical details for fighting enthusiasts to know.
First announced through the June 2025 State of Play as Project Defiant, a blog post online has shared more details about performance, features, accessories and more.
The fight stick controller is scheduled for a 2026 release, though a specific date has not been revealed yet. However, the controller will be featured on display at the Evolution Champion Series (Evo) in Las Vegas from August 1st to 3rd.
The FlexStrike will be showcased at the Fight Stick Museum and Arc System Works Booth, alongside new fighting game Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.
PlayStation FlexStrike Features Unveiled
Various features and capabilities were described for Playstation’s FlexStrike, made with ‘local fight nights’ and fighting ‘tournaments’ in mind.
The main highlight of the FlexStrike is that it features the same buttons and touchpad from PS5’s DualSense controller, now in a fight stick format catered for fighting games. It also has additional customisation options, swapping directional inputs with the built-in lever, and locking in layouts to prevent accidental inputs.
Players are able to use a single PS Link USB adapter (compatible with USB-C ports) to connect to an Elite wireless headset or Pulse Explore earbuds for the PS5 controller for low-latency audio and voice-chat.
Up to two PlayStation FlexStrikes can be connected through a single adapter to the PS5 or PS5 Pro consoles. The PS Link also means that the PS5 DualSense controller can be used even with a FlexStrike connected.
The controller also comes with a sling carry case, with a level gap to prevent damage to the digital stick during transport.
Edwin Foo, Vice President of Product Development at Sony Interactive Entertainment, commented: “FlexStrike is the first fight stick controller designed by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
“Compatible with PS5 or PC via a wired connection or wirelessly with PlayStation Link, our innovative ultra-low latency wireless technology, FlexStrike wireless fight stick features mechanical switch buttons and toolless swappable restrictor gates.”
