In the biggest underdog story of the year, Yangon Galacticos has won the PUBG Mobile World Cup (PMWC) 2025 after ‘surviving’ the Survival Stage by just one point.

The Burmese team was never among the favourites for the tournament, but managed to showcase the unpredictability of PUBG Mobile esports, as it defeated all the usual favourites to be crowned champions.

To put the scale of Yangon Galacticos’ achievement into perspective, the team made it through open qualifiers in Myanmar to the Challengers League (SEA) to qualify. Furthermore, the team isn’t a part of the Super League in any region.

By seed distribution in the PMWC Grand Finals, Yangon Galacticos are technically last. This is because it was the last team to qualify through the Survival Stage. The team placed eighth, and just a loss of one point would have led to elimination.

Yangon Galacticos Put Up a Remarkable Grand Final Show

In the grand finals, the first match was uneventful for the team, as it was eliminated in 12th place with just one kill. However, just in the second game, the team earned a WWCD, that too with 12 eliminations to its name. This was its third WWCD throughout the PMWC.

However, from there, the team put up a string of consistent performances, including three more victories to propel Yangon Galacticos to the top of the standings table with 157 points, 15 ahead of second-placed Weibo Gaming.

China’s Weibo Gaming were one of the favourites to win the tournament, but had to settle for second place.

PMWC 2025 Shatters Viewership Records

The PMWC 2025 achieved a peak viewership of more than 1.38m and an average of 450,330.

Both figures are far better than the previous edition of the tournament, which hit a peak of 564,865 and had 205,245 average viewers, per Esports Charts.

All the peak viewership figures came on day three of the grand finals, likely due to the Smash Rule being in effect on the penultimate day.

Under this rule, a team can win the entire tournament by first becoming ‘match point eligible’ and then winning a match. A team becomes match point eligible by reaching a total that is 10 points more than the highest team’s score at the end of day two.

While no team managed to win this way, it did keep every game exciting as more and more teams became match point eligible.

Additionally, the special invite to an Indian squad, Team Aryan, also increased the average viewership. Level Infinite also announced the next international stop for PUBG Mobile esports at the PMWC, the Global Championship, happening at the end of the year.

  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
