McLaren partners with Huami for Shadow Project

McLaren has entered a partnership with California-based wearable technology brand Huami, making it the official wearables partner of the McLaren Shadow Project.

Wrapping up on January 17th, the McLaren Shadow Project will use Huami’s technology to help find the winner of the programme.

Duncan Bradley, Health Unit Business Director at McLaren Applied Technologies commented on the deal: “This is a hugely exciting announcement for McLaren Applied Technologies. Huami is a global leader in the wearables technology space and we’re looking forward to the opportunity to co-develop products as part of this long-term technical partnership. The involvement of McLaren Applied Technologies in McLaren Shadow Project is a key differentiator between our competition and others in the racing e-sports space. This offering has only been strengthened by this partnership with Huami and we’re pleased to have such a trusted partner on-board to help crown our winner.”

The McLaren Shadow Project is an esports competition that will see the victor join McLaren’s team, subsequently competing in the Formula 1 Esports Series. The finals take place over fours days with both real-world and simulated racing, as well as human performance testing, all being factors in finding the best competitor. Huami’s products are being used to for the human performance section of the programme.

Tommy Tang, Vice President of Huami also discussed the partnership: “As part of our partnership we are honored to help determine the champion of McLaren Shadow Project, based on analysis of the biometric data collected from our premium wearable products. Importantly, we look forward to jointly developing smart technology wearable products that work with mobile applications to provide users with a comprehensive view of their biometric and activity data. Jointly, we can set a new standard in delivering quantifiable and actionable human performance insights.”

Esports Insider says: McLaren Shadow Project is a rigorous testing process that, in theory, will find the best person for the job. McLaren’s use of human performance testing adds a new aspect to being an esports professional and it’ll be interesting to see how this partnership helps in terms of competition in the future.
