Stephan Schippers, CEO of Borussia Mönchengladbach commented in a statement: “Our involvement in e-sports is still very young. Therefore, we are all the more pleased that the AOK Rheinland / Hamburg supports us in this area in a long-term and strong manner.”

Borussia E-Sports currently fields a four-man team in FIFA, competing in the Virtual Bundesliga – the official FIFA competition of the German Football League (DFL).

Rolf Buchwitz, Deputy Chairman of the Board of AOK Rheinland/Hamburg also discussed the partnership: “We are very pleased to continue our successful cooperation with Borussia Mönchengladbach in the field of e-sports. For us as a health fund, it is particularly important to sensitize young people to the topic of prevention. Therefore, in the future we will not only be supporting the E-Sports team at Borussia as a competent health partner – we will also look at the entire e-sports community. With tips on exercise, nutrition and relaxation we want to support e-sports professionals and amateurs to increase their own performance and win them for a healthy lifestyle.”

Clothing giant Puma was the first partner of Borussia E-Sports, it has since gone on to sponsor North American esports organisation Cloud9’s LCS team.

Esports Insider says: It’s good to see Borussia Mönchengladbach bring in a big sponsor that’s unique to its esports division. As is the norm with football clubs, it only competes in FIFA at the moment but this is a pretty solid start to a relatively new addition to the industry.

  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
  • S-Tier Reserved for elite operators only. These go well beyond the norm with lucrative bonuses, rewarding promotions, lightning-fast payouts, and a flawless experience overall.
