Tekken 8 will be returning to the Esports World Cup in 2026, with its tournament scheduled to run from August 4th to 7th.

The Esports World Cup Foundation has announced details about the event’s format and slot distribution.

The 2026 Tekken 8 Esports World Cup will see a total of 32 players competing for a prize pool of $1m (~£729,875). The slot distribution is as follows:

  • EWC Title Defender: 1
  • Tekken World Tour 2025 Global Finals: 8
  • EVO Japan: 4
  • Combo Breaker – TWT Master Event: 3
  • EVO: 4
  • SOOP Super Tournament – TWT Master Event: 3
  • The Mixup – TWT Master Event: 3
  • EWC Last Chance Qualifier: 4
  • To Be Announced: 3

Since the EWC 2025 Tekken 8 winner, Lim ‘Ulsan’ Soo-hoon, also made it to the top eight at the TWT 2025 Global Finals, the above slot distribution has been adjusted accordingly.

2026 Tekken 8 Esports World Cup Format

All 32 players will begin their campaign in Group Stage 1, where they will be split into four groups of eight. The participants will go through a double-elimination bracket featuring best-of-five series, with the top four players from each group qualifying for Group Stage 2.

In Group Stage 2, the remaining 16 players will be placed into two groups of eight. This stage will also follow a double-elimination format consisting of best-of-five series, and the top four players from each group will move on to the final stage of the tournament, the Playoffs.

Unlike the Group Stages, the Playoffs players will compete against each other in a single-elimination bracket featuring best-of-nine matches to crown the champion.

Ulsan Aims for a Three-peat at 2026 Tekken 8 EWC

SOOPers’ Ulsan will be stepping on stage as a two-time defending champion, with the goal of securing a third consecutive title. However, he will be facing tough competition from last year’s runner-up, Yoon ‘LowHigh’ Sun-woong, representing DRX, who is currently in fantastic form.

The South Korean player currently lifted the Tekken World Tour Finals 2025 trophy in Malmö, while Ulsan only managed to achieve a top-eight finish.
