NBA 2K League side Cavs Legion GC has announced plans to open an esports centre in Cleveland, Ohio.
The center – which will double as a practice facility and event venue – is set to open this autumn in Battery Park.
Nic Barlage, President of Business Operations at Cleveland Cavaliers discussed the centre in a release: “We’re thrilled to introduce this state-of-the-art facility designed to provide esports enthusiasts from Cleveland, Northeast Ohio and beyond a place to come together to compete, create and celebrate the world of competitive gaming.
“Not only will this training center give our Cavs Legion team a first-class venue to practice and sharpen their skills for the NBA 2K League, but it will also provide our region’s next generation of star gamers best-in-class tools to fuel their passion for esports.”
The 2,700 square foot facility with serve as the practice facility for the players who represent Cavs Legion GC and will also be open to members of the public as a tournament venue. The plans are to have forty gaming stations with Alienware desktops, Raynor gaming chairs, and SteelSeries peripherals – all of which either sponsor the team or the NBA 2K League.
There will be a two-tier stage that has the capabilities to host up to twelve players at once, an analyst desk, two streaming pods, and a content studio.
Cavs Legion GC named blockchain platform UnitedCoin as its official cryptocurrency partner earlier this month as part of a larger deal with its NBA side. The team will promote UnitedCoin through social media and its virtual in-game court.
Esports Insider says: We’re slowly but surely starting to see more and more teams and organisations open – or announce plans to open – an esports-dedicated facility. Not only does this serve as a good place for practice for players, but it could well help to foster and cultivate future esports fans.
