Psyonix invest over $2.5m into Rocket League esports

Rocket League is a fascinating esports title in many respects, and the latest news coming from Psyonix is that the developer is investing serious money to further develop the game’s esports scene. 

 This will be to the tune of $2.5m (£1.98m), a figure which’ll be spread over prize pools ($1m), a collegiate Rocket League program, new tournaments, appearances at major gaming festivals, charity tournaments, in-game enhancements and more.

Registration for the  Rocket League Championship Season 3 opens this week on February 9, and players will be signing up will be battling it out for a share of the $300,000 (£240,000) prize pool. 

Competitive play will begin on March 4 and 5, and the developer has also announced that there are also two big changes coming this season. 

First up, the Oceanic Region is being added into the competition, allowing players from Australia, New Zealand and more, to have a chance to strut their stuff. Registration for this region will begin a bit later than NA and EU however, and further details will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The other news is that there’ll be an RLCS weekly talk show launching in mid-March, which will cover ‘all things Rocket League esports’.
