Plans for the new facility in Battery Park were first revealed in July, with the centre providing a dedicated practice area for Cavs Legion GC and a place for the public to compete in tournaments.

Nic Barlage, President of Business Operations at Cleveland Cavaliers discussed the new facility in a release: “We’re thrilled to introduce this state-of-the-art facility designed to provide esports enthusiasts from Cleveland, Northeast Ohio and beyond a place to come together to compete, create and celebrate the world of competitive gaming. Not only will this training center give our Cavs Legion team a first-class venue to practice and sharpen their skills for the NBA 2K League, but it will also provide our region’s next generation of star gamers best-in-class tools to fuel their passion for esports.”

Legion Lair Lit by TCP contains 26 gaming stations containing Alienware and MSI desktop PCs, Raynor gaming chairs, and a range of SteelSeries peripherals. Lighting company Lit by TCP has partnered with Cavs Legion GC for the facility, acquiring the naming rights.

Len Komoroski, CEO of Cleveland Cavaliers added: “Gaming is for anyone and everyone from anywhere. From esports enthusiasts to beginners or those who haven’t picked up a controller in decades, this will be “home” for every person who has an interest in gaming or just wants to learn more about it. We are excited to open the doors and provide Cleveland, Northeast Ohio and the region with a unique place to compete, create and celebrate the world of competitive gaming.”

Esports Insider says: The number of dedicated esports and gaming facilities is growing in North America, and this is another one to add to the list. While providing a purpose-built space for Cavs Legion GC, the facility provides a place for the public to compete in a LAN environment and that’s great.
