Berlin based Challengeme Esports GmbH, a platform provider of esports player matchmaking and tournaments, announced the acquisition of US-based eSports Hero Inc. last night.

In another piece of major news for the company it was revealed that Australian company, Esports Mogul (ESM), has made a commitment of $4.9m (£3.9m) in equity investment and guaranteed marketing contribution into Challengeme Esports GmbH. The firm will also become the exclusive partner for the APAC region.

This new structure will allow ChallengeMe.GG to commit time and resources in expanding its platform offer beyond just Europe. With no time to lose, the company has stated that the roll-out into new territories including North America, Southeast Asia, and Australia will begin immediately with new game titles to be added too.

Simon Seefeldt, CEO of Challengeme Esports commented: “We are incredibly excited to be joining forces with Esports Mogul and Esports Hero. Combining ESM as a strategic partner and investor with the acquisition of Esports Hero, will allow ChallengeMe.GG to expand faster and more aggressively on a truly global scale.”

Managing Director of Esports Mogul, Gernot Abl, gave his thoughts: “We are deeply impressed by ChallengeMe.GG’s platform, including the technology and team behind it, as well as the success it has already built in the European market. We are confident that ChallengeMe.GG will be very successful in APAC too, and will form the centrepiece of our esports strategy in the region.”

Esport Hero has quite a foothold in the US market not to mention experience with putting on live events. As such this acquisition will allow Challengeme to expand into other areas and move into live tournament hosting.

James Heldridge, CEO of eSports Hero noted: “We believe in the strength of the combined entity and are very happy to become part of the Challengeme team. We are looking forward to taking the North American and global market by storm. With esports growing exponentially, we are well placed to become one of the leading companies in this space.”

Esports Insider says: Another $5m enters esports by way of investment and this acquisition by Challengeme will allow the company a huge opportunity to expand into both new territories and new business sectors.
