The event will take place on Friday 17th January at 13:00 CET and will feature some unconventional features, including substitutions, random money injections, and mixed teams.

The charity, Barncancerfonden, is the Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund and works to fight childhood cancer and ensure that affected children, teens and their families receive the care and support they require. The majority of donations are used to finance research, with other funds allocated towards advice and support, fundraising, raising awareness and administration.

The event will be broadcast on the GRID esports Twitch channel which can be found here.GRID and Godsent have enlisted the services of Teo “oversiard” and Kieran to cast, and donations will be shown on broadcast with live readings of messages sent. GRID has already donated 500 and will be matching donations made on the first map up to a value €1,000.

Nathalie Hillerström, Project Manager of Events for Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund discussed the showmatch: “The Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund are proud and thankful to be the charity receiver for this match arranged by Grid and Godsent. We quite recently decided to get involved in the booming esports world, as it is in line with our strategy to expand our sporting events and get in touch with a new target group. Hopefully this is just the beginning of our exciting journey within esports.”

The event follows the announcement late last year of GRID and GODSENT’s partnership. The GRID logo features prominently across the front of the GODSENT shirt as part of the deal.

Moritz Maurer, CEO of GRID also commented:2019 has been an exciting year for GRID. At the start of 2020 we want to give something back and are happy that we have great partners like Godsent who think alike. I hope that everybody enjoys our little showmatch for a good cause and that we raise a lot for the foundation.”

Ludwig Sandgren CEO & Co Founder of GODSENT concluded: “We are very proud to be part of this initiative in trying to contribute with what we can to a very important purpose. Childhood should be about being with friends and playing games and if we can aid in helping raise money for children with cancer it is something absolutely worth doing and we hope that we will see more initiatives like this in esports in the future”

Esports Insider says: Charity initiatives in esports are always great to see and undoubtedly this is a great cause too. We would encourage anyone and everyone to drop in and see just how GRID stack up against the GODSENT squad and donate where possible.
