French sports daily L’Equipe has reported that Paris Saint-Germain Football Club appear to be set to invest in esports. PSGStadium

The article stated that the Ligue 1 champions are in talks with French esports team Millenium to develop a partnership.

Millenium is one on France’s largest esports organisations and was acquired by Webedia Gaming in 2014.

It has a respectable roster of players on games including Hearthstone, Starcraft II, FIFA, League of Legends and Call of Duty. The team’s representative though was coy in responding to the rumours.

Cedric Page, CEO at Webedia Gaming said: “We talk with such good organisations, but we cannot say more.”

L’Equipe reported that further announcements are expected on the matter in October, and that PSG has been working towards the project for some time.

Other clubs in Europe have entered esports; Wolfsburg, Valencia, Sporting Lisbon, Man City and West Ham to namedrop a few but PSG would be the first in France. It looks like it would be following Schalke 04’s footsteps more closely too by acquiring a current and popular team.

Schalke took over the League of Legends team Elements earlier this year.
