Overwatch League franchise Philadelphia Fusion has established a partnership with Rothman Orthopaedic Institute.
The five-year deal will see the institute become the official medical provider of the team and a sponsor of the Fusion Arena.

As per the deal, Philadelphia Fusion’s players will be monitored by a team of physicians – including Dr. Bradley Smith, Dr. Edward Rosero, and Dr. Robert Franks – to ensure good health.
Tucker Roberts, President of Spectator Gaming and Philadelphia Fusion, discussed the partnership in a release: “To be competitive at the highest level of esports, our players need to maintain a healthy lifestyle and prevent injury wherever possible. Our partnership with Rothman Orthopaedics provides our players with the best medical treatment and helps them optimize their performance.”

In January, Philadelphia-based Nerd Street Gamers partnered with the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute in a bid to promote healthy habits in gaming and esports. The partnership was launched alongside Philadelphia Fusion, which has now established its own partnership with the institute.
Alexander R. Vaccaro, MD, PhD, MBA, President of Rothman Orthopaedic Institute also commented: “We feel it is important that esports athletes receive the same high-level musculoskeletal care that athletes receive in any other professional sport in order to maintain a trajectory of future success. Together, we will work to prevent injury throughout the year, optimize performance and manage players’ health.”
Once built in 2021, the Fusion Arena will be the location where Philadelphia Fusion hosts its homestand events. Rothman Orthopaedic Institute will have signage throughout the arena and will also be sponsoring the “Hometown Hero Award,” which will be presented to a local service member at all home matches throughout the 2021 season.
Esports Insider says: Having qualified medical staff to look after the health and well-being of esports players is slowly but surely becoming the norm for a number of teams and organisations. The franchise’s players are certainly in safe hands for the next five seasons.
