Activision has partnered with Sony Mobile to launch the Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship, starting April 30th.
Described as a global tournament, many details for the event are yet to be unveiled.

Activision has announced that any players looking to participate in the Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship need to be ranked veteran or higher in the Ranked mode of the game. The event will have a total prize purse of $1 million (£812,200), though distribution is unknown at the time of writing.
Chris Plummer, Vice President of Mobile at Activision, spoke on the initiative in a release: “We are very excited to launch our highly-anticipated competitive tournament in Call of Duty: Mobile. As the next-evolution in our fan-favorite Ranked Play, this tournament format gives eligible Call of Duty: Mobile players a chance to compete with players from around the world for cash and prizes.”

Beyond the prize pool and the start date of April 30th, no further details for the World Championship have been disclosed at the time of writing.
This is a very different approach to the console version of Call of Duty, which kicked off its newly-franchised Call of Duty League late in 2019. The competition has 12 geolocated teams, with slots being worth at least $25 million (£20.3 million) each.
Esports Insider says: On one hand it’s exciting to see CoD: Mobile finally move into esports, but on the other hand it’s still early days with many details yet to come. $1M is, of course, a grand amount of money and the mention of the event being “global” is a promising start.
