The Global Esports Federation has detailed the initial composition of its Athletes and Players Commission.
The commission has been created to focus on education, fair play, and the development of career pathways for esports players.

The Athletes and Players Commission was confirmed alongside seven other commissions that focus on various areas of the esports ecosystem, including education and finance. It’s chaired by five-time Olympian Charmaine Crooks, with Koen Schobbers serving as the vice chair.
Crooks spoke on her role in the commission in a release: “I am thrilled to bring my experiences as an Olympian, administrator, and entrepreneur with a deep passion for sport and technology – together with Koen, we will advise the GEF Board and help shape the organisation, convening this incredibly inclusive community, and uplift the lives of so many through the Global Esports Federation development platforms and #worldconnected outreach.”

The commission will advise the board of the Global Esports Federation regarding matters relating to the representation of esports players and oversee the creation of a new initiative that enables players to come together through learning platforms and tournaments.
Schobbers added: “I’m honoured and excited to work with Charmaine Crooks and the whole #worldconnected team at the Global Esports Federation. Esports is the sport of the modern era – it’s our time. Our initial group of athletes and players will pave the way for more to join. We have to take proper care of our community and keep improving the wellbeing of the athletes and to empower them to keep levelling-up their game, because without athletes, there is no esports.”
Esports Insider says: Despite Tencent’s involvement in the federation still placing some questions surrounding impartiality and intentions, it’s good to see a diverse selection of members come together with the best interests of the players in mind.
