Cloud9 secures investment from Reddit co-founder & others

Cloud9 are in the money. The organisation has secured a Series A round of funding which includes a number of big names as investors.

These include the likes of Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence, L.A. Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly, San Francisco 49ers legendary QB Joe Montana, Venture Partners co-founder Rick Thompson, Golden State Warriors co-owner Chamath Palihapitiya, and Tesla board director Antonio Gracias, Kimbal Musk, and Bill Lee.

Other investors included Founders Fund co-founder Ken Howery and partner Brian Singerman, Bonfire Studios co-founders Min Kim and Rob Pardo, Jam City co-founder Josh Yugado, United Talent Agency, NBA star Andrew Bogut.

The funding round was led by FunPlus Ventures and secured an undisclosed sum. 

Cloud9 currently has teams in League of Legends, Counter-Strike, Hearthstone, Dota 2, Overwatch and more. It has sponsors such as Logitech, Axe, HTC amongst others on board. This news also follows the team’s announcement of a partnership with CS:GO training platform Boomeo at the weekend.

As reported by VentureBeatJoe Montana, a famous former quarterback for the 49ers, stated: “Cloud9 is a fantastic organisation that has shown throughout the years that it has what it takes to continuously contend for championships in multiple esports titles. The players of Cloud9 work hard to always compete at the highest level and the organisation’s leadership strives to provide a positive atmosphere that allows its players the opportunity to be in a position to do their best.”

The funding round includes the likes of Montana, one of Reddit’s co-founders, co-owners from the Golden State Warriors and the Dodgers…it’s an impressive list.  Let’s see what Etienne and co. do with this funding.
