The University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union (UKFCU) has acquired the naming rights to an esports facility which is to be built on the campus of the University of Kentucky.
The UK Federal Credit Union Esports Lounge and Theater will act as the hub for the university’s esports program.

The 13-year naming rights deal builds on a relationship between the two parties which began in 1937 when the UKFCU was founded. More recently, the university entered a partnership with Gen.G Esports to build its esports program.
David Kennedy, President and CEO of the UKFCU, commented on the deal in a release: “We are very excited to be the official sponsor of the Esports Lounge at the University of Kentucky. The investment our credit union is making in UK’s new esports program represents our commitment to innovate and cultivate new technologies and ideas for a large group of students.
“While typical sports teams are limited to a smaller population of the student body, we view esports as an opportunity for all students to participate. UKFCU is proud to have served the UK community for 83 years and we are excited to grow our relationship for the next generation.”

The facility is set to open in the Autumn and will contain over 50 gaming computers, consoles, and space to enable esports tournaments to take place.
Eric N. Monday, University of Kentucky Vice President for Finance and Administration, added: “The university is grateful to partner with the UK Federal Credit Union on the naming of the Esports Lounge and Theater in The Cornerstone. This innovation and retail space is vital to supporting our community’s success, and, through this partnership, we can further create a collaborative space for thoughtful community-building and engagement.”
Esports Insider says: Given the history between the two parties, it’s not a huge surprise to see the UKFCU get further involved. Soon to be equipped with a great, purpose-built facility, the university’s esports program is in a great position to yield results.
