In the month of August there was only ever going to be one esport which was the most watched; Dota 2. newtophoursesportstwitchaugust

Thanks to The International with its $20m plus largely crowdfunded prize pool no other title stood a chance. One of the most notable statistics to emerge from Newzoo’s latest report on viewing figures however is that of Overwatch.

Overwatch gained three places to finish in fifth for the month. This was evidently due to the ESL Atlantic Showdown which took place at Cologne’s Gamescom event. There were no ‘majors’ for CS:GO and with the NALCS and EULCS finals in August for League of Legends, the latter held onto the number two spot whilst CS:GO fell to fourth.

Overwatch’s fifth placed finish is definitely impressive for a newcomer clocking in 18.3 million total hours and 3.1 million esports hours watched.

This event was the first major live international in Overwatch’s history with a six figure prize pool up for grabs, and the numbers involved stand it in good stead for the future.

ESI Ranking System
We’ve created a ranking system to help you quickly know how good each gambling platform is. As gamblers ourselves, we know which factors matter most to you, so we follow a best-in-class methodology to test each one with no stone unturned. Once done, we then rank each platform based on the following tiers:
  • A-Tier High-quality sites that deliver a top experience every time. They boast strong performance, nice features, and reliable support, but are just shy of perfection.
  • B-Tier Solid platforms that are worth a spin. They’re safe, fun, and functional, but may be lacking advanced features or have minor drawbacks.
  • S-Tier Reserved for elite operators only. These go well beyond the norm with lucrative bonuses, rewarding promotions, lightning-fast payouts, and a flawless experience overall.
